Bike baby! Bike!

I am from a country where people wait for the green light at the cross walks and biking is much more than exercise - it is pretty much how you get from A to B... Now, as the sunlight is starting to warm my face here in Boise I keep looking for bikers... but the only bikers I see are the ones dressed in fluorescent colored spandex and I am guessing that they are not on their way to work - going on a date or going out for dinner dressed like that...  

So just to remember - A moment in time... Copenhagen 2009!

 

 
  

Izona

Ahhh... Remodeling takes forever... The joy of living in a construction site!
We have finally purchased our kitchen cabinets - and now I am trying to find some nice appliances. I have found it really hard to find anything locally - let's just say this Danish Scandinavian design fan - doesn't hit it of with the furniture shops in Boise.
In general everything from sofas to fridges here seems to have the bulky - almost rounded look! I don't like it!
Finally a friend of mine - Corrin from Gospad, got me on the right track when she sent me a link to Izona!
They have beautiful gas cook tops, cooler drawers - that I have been looking for forever... pretty much all the appliances that I have been looking for in a straight, clean, strong design.

You would think that everything now would be fine and dandy - and that I would be dancing around in my construction site ! I would be - if I could find a place in the US that sell these appliances... It seems to me that you can only get these beautiful appliances in Australia, New Zealand and The UK! Can that really be right? I must own these appliances!

Love Fire...

It is no secret that I am currently living in a construction site as we are trying to remodel our new house. It is also no secret that I am a bit of a pyro... This house remodel gives me a great excuse to spend a lot of time surfing all the cool design sites on the internet - great excuse to dream big and great excuse to post cool stuff on this blog!
Yesterday as I was doing research on fireplaces I found the perfect solution! Although I really like the feel of a wood fireplace - let's face it! It is a hassle. It is dirty - you have to haul wood, dry it, carry it, get it, clean up all the time, have the chimney cleaned... and bla bla bla... Then there is gas - which doesn't have so much of an appeal to me.

But after reading about the BioEthanol Fireplaces I think it is a no brainer really! What's nice about the bioethanol fireplaces as well, is that unlike gas fireplaces, which have a pretty unattractive (and unromantic) blue flame, the flame in a bioethanol fireplace is actually as close as you will get to traditional yellow wood crackling flame.

The fact that you don't need a chimney and that it is clean, safe and environmental friendly just makes me smile...  Ethanol is made from plants, it does not release any new carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air. The only CO2 that can be released is the gas which was absorbed by the plants as they grew. Also, when ethanol is burned its emissions are roughly similar to human breath – small amounts of water vapor and carbon dioxide, with no harmful or toxic substances, so ventilation is not necessary.

Good Bye Kabul

I left Afghanistan a few days ago. Suitcase full of shots - so I am pretty happy. I always feel I could have done more - this time is no exception - But I am happy and content - and feel that my experience living in Kabul the last 4 years has helped me in many ways there. Who knows... Maybe it has also hindered me - as you probably won't find me walking around the streets finding that perfect shot... I know better! I know how dangerous it can be there and I know not to get carried away.
I know I am missing out on great photo opportunities but I hope I can get the best of both worlds and still make good photos.

I spent a few days in Dubai.. Met up with some old friends & mainly tried to clean up after Kabul. A lot can be said about Dubai - but it is the perfect place to pamper yourself after some time in Afghanistan!

The flight to Dubai from Kabul easily get into my top 5 of miserable flights (and I have had MY share of horrible airplane related experiences). Because of Xmas and over bookings and a lot of other events I should have foreseen - I ended up flying on Safi Airlines out of there.   I don't know how many extra rows of seats they put on that airplane, but it must have been quite a few as there was NO way what-so-ever my legs would fit in my little space.  It probably didn't help that I was in the very very back of the plane (the last seat before the bathroom) which ment no possibility for me to lean my seat back - while the guy in front of me had his seat permanently pressed into my knees.

As usual I sat there with my camera in my sweaty palms ready to crash and die... Here is what it looked like flying into Dubai on one of the only days of the year were it actually rained in Dubai.
Now I am back in Denmark for a few days... Enjoying Mom and Dad's X-mas food - and walks around this little town that I grew up in... It is amazing how everything looks the same... and at the same time - things are so different. There is only one shop left in town... The Grocery store! When I was a kid...

Anyways - This is a picture that ewokes many emotions in me. The amount of time I have spent here... waiting for trains, friends, boys and sometimes just for time to pass...
