Last weekend I photographed the Schmitt's in their beautiful home in the foothills here in Boise. All I can say is WOW (!!!) - what a beautiful family! Of course my heart melted when I met the most cooporative dog to date. He just insisted to be in the pictures... walked in - sat down and... ehm... smiled!?
Yup! The dog always steals the picture.

There is a certain time of day that is completely magic in my living room. If you have ever visited me at that specific time - you will know what I am talking about - mainly because I can't shut up about it. Right now that magic time is just around 7.15 PM... It gets earlier and earlier every day and I am always looking forward to the magic light coming through my (now washed) windows... It hits the ceilings and the walls and bounces around and cast crazy shadows and beautiful light all over... love love love
I LOVE balloons... all kinds and colors. I love them for photoshoots because they always make people happy... and they have color and they remind me of playing with my brothers when I was a kid... Hot air balloons are no different to me. They are big glorified beautiful hovering blobs of color on the sky. The make me happy - they make me feel like a child and I just want climb in one of those baskets with a bottle of champagne and sing 'take me to the moon'... I do not know what the alcohol policy is on a balloon-craft - and I don't even think they look like they are that comfortable to ride in - but I do think that champagne is the only appropriate drink for a balloon fare...
A few weeks ago I got up ridiculously early to see the balloons take of at the Boise Balloon Festival. I met up with my good friend (and completely awesome Photographer) Nate from Minneapolis - who was in town to shoot a wedding. We ran around like little kids among 100's of other photographers and snapped away...
My favourite photos almost always has something to do with the way the sun is in the sky... I love it when the sun just breaks through in the morning (although I am rarely awake to experience that) and I love love love it right before the sun creeps back down behind the horizon and let the moon take over.

When I was in photography school I met one of the most inspiring people you can ever meet. Marcy taught me so many things... how to cover you photos in bees wax, how to think outside the box and how to trust in your own ability to make art. But the most important lesson I learned from Marcy was also the most simple of all lessons and to this day I apparently still haven't learned!
Always bring your camera with you!
So last night as I was walking my dogs the most beautiful and powerful ligthning storm started...We sat there for a good 45 minutes and just watched it - it was amazing - except that all the time I was bitching about not having my camera. My wonderful husband offered to go home and get it for me - but I just knew that the moment he would come back with it - the lightning would be over... It is kinda like when you wait for the phone to ring - it never rings...
The storm was still going strong when we got home - so I set up the camera and was lucky to get a few shots in before it ended -Gosh! I really love lightning!
So really! I think it is about time I start to listen to Marcy...
From my trip to Dauphin Island in May - only a few weeks after the big oil spill. The National guard put up these Hesco Barriers to protect against the oil. The wall stretches about 4 miles long and took a few weeks to put up!
This last week I spent at Dauphin Island, Alabama - following the efforts to prevent a major oil spill crisis. I am currently sitting in the airport on my way home to edit the 3000 (!!! Not kidding) pictures I took during the last week.
This is one of the pictures I took and it was published in LA Times on May 12.

A 4 mile Hesco Wall is a sight in itself - and I was really impressed with the amount of work being done out there!
I will be posting more from this trip - and explain what this wall is all about - during the next few days - right now I have a plane to catch!
